2

Sockyarn-club parcel number 2 has arrived. This color is called "Rainbow", and once more the colors are really, really pretty. So pretty, that I actually signed up for another 3 months....

The first yarn is becoming socks. Delayed by the crochet blanket, but they are going to be nice! This yarn is also for socks. Maybe for my sister? (She would get some very beautiful feet indeed!)

Næsten som et eventyr / Almost like a fairy tale

Almost like in the fairy tales, my plan was to finish the blanket before sunset, so it would be possible to take a few photos. And I made it! At the last minute, since it's already quite dark by now. But here it is: The finished blanket on the cold, icy grass.
I made this edge, but skipped a row of double crochet stitches. There wasn't enough time....
Apart from that, this blanket is easy-peasy. Granny-squares in bunches, most of them of a size with 6 groups of double crochet stitches in the outer row, a few with 13 groups of double crochet stitches.
I'm really, really happy, although my right hand feels sore, and I've almost stressed out, doing all this crochet the past week!

In total the blanket weighs 950 grams. I used 7 whole balls and some left-overs from a pair of socks, all in Crazy Zauberball in green-blue-grey-black and white colors. I really like the different colors together. The assembly was done with around 4.5 skeins of Arwetta Classic in a pretty turquoise.
All I need to do now is giving it away! (Oh well - and finish the pair of socks that should be part of her present tomorrow.....)

Kant / Edge

Kanten er på vej. Der er håb!

The edge is growing. There is hope!

The blanket just need the turquoise ends to be weaved in and then the crochet edge. I'm SO fed up with crochet after this past weeks marathon......

Stadig koldt / Still cold

Sætter ens liv i perspektiv!)

Even though spring is supposed to be just around the corner, it's still cold.
Not as cold as were the penguins live on the South Pole, but maybe the poor penguins have some ideas on how to stay warm? (Okay. I know. They just stand in a huge lump all winter, taking turns on standing in the outer rim. Puts a little perspective to your life!)
This little penguin will love keeping your feet (and himself) warm as a water bottle cozy. The pattern is at the bottom of the page.

Nyt projekt / New project

In my kitchen I do have some light up in the ceiling. Two naked bulbs have been hanging around for years. They give good light, so I didn't do anything to cover them.
But now it's going to change! Yesterday I went to Malmö with my friend, and in Lagerhaus (amazing store!) they had skeletons for lamp-shades. So a coming project will be to make the lampshades for my bulbs.
First I need to finish the blanket, though. The progress is excellent! Actually I'm sticking to the schedule I planned (and hoped for) regarding how many stripes to make a day! I think it will be done by Tuesday, and then I can wash it too, before giving it away.
I Lagerhaus så jeg også denne madkasse. "Dagens frokost - *kan indeholde spor af rester".... Fnis.

In Lagerhaus I also saw this lunch box. "Today's lunch - *may contain traces of meal-left-overs".....

One day there was a note in my postbox that a parcel had arrived from Sweden. From Sweden? I really started speculating what on earth it would be, in the few days before I could pick it up.

Turned out to be a knitting magazine. From the US. Ordered almost a month before.
Very exciting, since I had no idea of the exact reason why I had ordered it!

Of course I had to look though the magazine. Right away! The reason I bought it was this pattern. Very nice, don't you think? There is absolutely NO time for knitting it right now, but still......
There are plenty of other nice models in this magazine, and I'm quite happy I bought it.
And my blanket? Coming along nicely, thank you.

Turkis / Turquoise

This is a poor ipad-picture in the early mornings light of the turquoise crochet join of the squares. In reality, it looks much brighter!
I did half of the short stripes, and still have a long way to go, as you can imagine. But I'm working on it! The good thing about the big squares is that some of the rows will be shorter, saving time.

Alle firkanterne / All the squares

All the squares are finished and the ends sewn, and I've started crocheting them together using turquoise yarn. After taking this picture, you know.....
It looks good so far, and I'm quite eager to see it done. Furthermore, I've been invited for the birthday on Wednesday, so I really need to crochet non-stop! (I hope my friend from Odense who will come visiting this weekend, will be very understanding. Otherwise she might not visit me for a while!)
Fortunately, my arm starts aching if I crochet for more than around 4 hours a day, so I guess there will be time to go shopping too.....

Suk / Sigh

Knitting or not - I'm tired of reading articles. It's good this is the last one today!

The end(s)

Last night I sewed the ends of the 97 squares I crocheted this far. Since some of the squares had more than 2 ends, I ended op with a pile of around 200 ends in total. Man, was this boring! Took me a couple of hours, and I was entertained by my tv while doing it. I'm really happy it's done now.
My niece's birthday is in just 1 week, and I still need to make 9 squares plus crocheting everything together. As far as I remember, the crochet-together-thing is really tough and takes much more time than you would ever imagine. I need to crochet for some hours every single day all week, if I'm going to get ready. But I WANT to do it. (And I'm pretty stubborn.)

Ild i garnet? / Wool on fire?

Godt nok i mikrobølgeovnen, men alligevel!)

Sometimes you feel like you're knitting so fast the needles are smoking...... (I once set some yarn on fire. In the microwave, but still!)
Today's pattern can be used for different things. As a fire extinguisher(model), maybe for a fireman's Christmas tree? Or just to impress other people?
It's really cute, and the pattern can be found here.

Vildt garn / Wild yarn

If you ever heard of wild-yarn - which would be untamed yarn - then this is it. Pure, Chinese silk. A gift from my friend who gave up!
I thought "well, how hard can it be?" and started winding. This is how far I got with the skein before I gave up. So - is there anyone out there who knows a yarn-whisperer? Or should I just decide to knit directly from the skein-holder? With another strand of yarn, of course. Silk like this would never behave properly when sitting alone on a needle!

Og vanter / And mittens

Der er nye vanter i huset.
Da vinteren startede, ville jeg finde mine tykke vanter frem. Men ak.

New mittens are in da house. I love them! Even though they only took 3 days to knit, they had a long journey coming. Are you ready for a mitten-tale?
When the winter began, I found my thick mittens. But - oh no! The terrible moths had been around before me! "Oh, well", I thought. "I can make new mittens!" I had the yarn. Thick, gray wool that I won in a dice-game during fall. Warm and very soft!
But it wasn't so easy. I really had some trouble with my conscience. First of all, I had some things I REALLY needed to finish. NOW! And secondly, I had received the most wonderful kit with yarn and pattern for mittens from Latvia, and would it be nice to knit thick mittens instead of the pretty ones?

When it started snowing again some days ago, I just HAD to start. I wanted mittens while winter was still here! So I found this pattern on Ravelry. I shortened the cuff, but otherwise followed the pattern faithfully. The mittens are really nice, with a heavy, firm pattern on the inside and cables on the top. You have to read the pattern carefully, and it sure was kind of difficult with a talking niece sitting next to me, getting a little bored whenever I did "nothing" but knit! (She really wanted the mittens for herself, by the way, and tried the first one on a few times.) But my niece went home, and now they're done. I am working today, and I must admit that it will brighten my morning considerably wearing these mittens while cycling to work.
I used 125 grams of "Natur uld". Never heard of the yarn company, but the wool is really nice!

Lidt mere / A little bit more

Her er sandelig lidt mere strikket!
Virkeligt hyggelige at lave!

It is amazing, but some more knitted stuff turned up! A little baby's hat from the new patterns by Lene Holme Samsøe, and a pair of tiny, though very long, baby socks from "blød begyndelse".
I made them from 50 grams of Wollmeise, I guess the color was called Zimtaphel. Really pretty color, and both patterns have my warmest recommendations. Really nice to make!
I'm not quite sure who these things were made for. I thought I knew, but I guess another baby will pass by at some point.

Noget strikket! / Something knitted!

As my niece very dryly commented this Tuesday, most posts on this knitting blog is not exactly related to knitting...... (Just moments later she had to turn away because we found the spider photo!)
I have to do something about this problem, so here comes a picture of something finished. For the very niece. A cowl!

It is a "Turbulence cowl", found on Ravelry. It was really fun to knit with wrap-and-turns, and was quite fast, too.  I was clearly informed that it should be made from cotton, so I used plain, thin cotton, knitting on 3.5 mm needles. Since the pattern called for worsted weight yarn and 5 mm needles, I had to change it a little.
I cast on 120 stitches instead of 100, and made each "wave" over 30 stitches instead of 25. I think it turned out fine, and the recipient is happy. In the clear light of reality it is very brightly turquoise and purple, but you will have to guess the colors...... I used a total of 50 grams of yarn.

Today is my day off, and my 10 year old niece who has a weeks vacation, is visiting. We have a mini-vacation, and it is ever so nice.
She has been brainwashed with boybands and I discovered that I still remember all the names of the Backstreet Boys members and (almost) all the Westlife names. She memorized 3 words of a song (success!) and barely survived watching a few - very intense and tender - music videos....
We have a large production of candles going on - it has been a while so I have plenty of wax!
The highlight of yesterday, however, was when I threw the yatzy-dices into my cup of tea instead of the dice-container......

In just 3 days it is Valentines Day. Even here in Denmark, you can find the "pink corner" in every shop, filled with "romantic" gift ideas.
In a way very, very nice and funny, but still in a way kind of annoying.....
Anyway. Today's pattern is somewhere in between. You can make hearts, in a really awesome way, using the pattern for these celtic hearts. (Please be aware that the link will take you to the Ravelry-page, and when you use the link for the pattern, you will be taken straight to the pdf.)
I think they are really nice, and they don't have to be green!

Helt nyt for mig / Completely new to me

My nephew thought we should do something together. So he had brought a Warhammer box, and I tried something I never, ever tried before.
Painting a Warhammer orc!
There were not many details to paint on this one, but it still was very tiny. And difficult.
It's not very pretty, but here it is anyway. Reminds me of the Disney version of Quasimodo.
(By the way - I knitted too! While we watched the movie.)

Forbrydelsen / The killing

Look, what I bought! Definitely a treasury of useful information about Danish people and "The killing". And a certain sweater.
Today will bring a visit from a nephew and plans of "Lord of the rings 3", maybe a little "Legend of Zelda" and a drop of Dr. Who?
I can hardly tell you how much I'm looking forward to relaxing after a very long day at work yesterday! (My nephew is excited, too.)

The this-will-take-me-forever crochet blanket is just short of 26 squares before it's finished (AND short of crocheting all squares together, you know!). Since I might have promised that this would be for my niece, and since her birthday is coming up in just 3 weeks, maybe I should try working a little faster.......

Min dygtige niece / My skilled niece

At some point in October, my niece was sitting here in my livingroom, telling me she didn't have a knitting project! Just as we were leaving for Disneyland! Of course I couldn't live with that knowledge (I guess this was actually part of her calculations!), so I took a good look at my stash.
She wanted to make a big cowl, if possible with a hood, and the color should be green.
I found some wool and mohair from garnudsalg, and we agreed on stripes. I took a wild guess about the number of stitches, and then it just started growing!

Almost 2 weeks ago she came for a visit with knitting and Disney movies. Great combination, by the way! When she arrived, she was ready to make the hood, and it didn't take her too long to finish. It got a wash and dryed before she left, so she went home with a warm head and neck. She was very happy with it and proud, too, and I understand why! It is very soft and light and warm. In total she used almost 3 skeins of 100 grams each, 2 skeins of wool, one skein of thin mohair.
And now - my bright reader - you wonder what she did visiting me, after her knitting was done? You guessed already, didn't you? She had a new project from my stash......

Last night I met with one of my friends who had come to Copenhagen for a course and had the first night off. It was so nice! We ate at Lê Lê, which is a wonderful place. Really interesting, Vietnamese food, without the feeling of spending every penny in your wallet.
Afterwards, it wasn't too late, and we were standing at Vesterbro torv (square), in need of a bar or a café. And then we noticed Obelix's special place......
I've never been there before, but will give my warmest recommendations. It was so very cozy with lots of pictures from the cartoons, a great leather couch and really good service.

They even had a wild boar's head! They didn't serve roasted wild boar, though, which would have been great, but instead they served burgers. Or breakfast. We only had something to drink and enjoyed the place and talking about everything.
I do believe I will come back sometime - just to hang out and knit?

Varm på en cool måde / Warm in a cool fashion

When it's winter and really cold (especially if you go by bike!) it may feel like your nose and chin are falling off your face.
But fear not - help is here! If you're afraid of frost bite, and if you have a constant longing for the old days with knights and dragons, then this hat would be perfect for you.
It works with Halloween as well!

Part of yesterday was spent on an outing with my knitting circle for the craft fair in Rødovre. It was amazing! Even though I expected lots and lots of people, and even though we had to wait in a line to buy tickets, it still wasn't too crowded. Didn't feel like it, anyway. A lot of crafts were represented, and these sweet figures from Angry Birds was in a little shop with things for felting.

There was a knitted bicycle! Totally awesome the way it was almost completely covered with knitting! I don't think you can ride it, though.....
There were so many shops with so many great things, and I had done my very, very best to remain steadfast looking at all these piles of wonderful yarn.
Lidt nyt må man jo have!

But I bought a little. Just a tiny amount. Yarn for hat and mittens, sock yarn for my new carbon double pointed needles size 3 mm and then this amazing yarn, reflecting light. It will be fun to use this as part of the hat and mittens!
Oh well - and then I bought a few patterns. You need something new every now and then!

Amalienborg

Her står min nevø.

Here is my nephew. I think...... It's hard to tell, right? My sister and her family came too, and my sister and myself were waving at the soldiers, while the kids where terribly embarrassed. But I think it's important that our soldier could see we were there to support him! This time he wasn't on the team walking around, releasing those standing guard, so this was as close as I got.

They brought the flags today, and marched a bit more than usual.
Flot så det ud, og jeg VED at han var der!

It looked very beautiful, and I KNOW he was there!

Rasende fjer / Furious feathers

Stor fejl!
Perfekt fredag aften!

Yesterday was a busy day, and I learned a lot.
1) Never think budgerigars are as cute on the inside as they look on the outside
2) My program for this Saturday was wrong. Apparently
3) You can have a really nice time with kids on Friday night WITHOUT watching the Disney Show
First of all, as you can see, something is still happening between the old male and the young female. They talk through the bars and I thought that maybe they should be let out together. They might be happy to meet?
Big mistake! Within a few seconds they attacked each other and became a ball of swirling wings. If I hadn't separated them, I think they would have continued fighting until one of them was dead. So that was the end of bird-come-together-events!
About Saturday, I'm actually going to the crafts fair today! But before that, I'm going to see the change of guards at the queens castle. Turned out it will be the last time my nephew is on guard while her majesty is at home. They will have more parading and stuff, and of course I would love to come see him! (And all the rest of them....)
Last night I went to my sister's place. SUCH a nice time! We watched strange creatures in the deep sea on TV, and it was really nice and interesting. They had their gifts from Zanzibar, and my youngest nephew was really happy to have his sweater that fit him nicely. Perfect Friday night!
