Godt nytår! / Happy New Year!

Just as the old year is about to end, I'll show you my shopping from last Friday in "garnudsalg". (It was a yummy shop!)
And let me start by making it clear that I bought JUST one bag of yarn!
First some red silk/wool and some brown mohair boucle (extremely cheap!).

A little pink highland-wool came in the bag. Mostly needed for slices of radish for the scarf, but the color is amazing! Then some green wool/cashmere (SO soft!). An entire kilo! By the counter I saw some baby-alpaca/wool. Really soft! It also came in the bag.
Now I just need to find out what to knit.....

Joakim von And / Uncle Scrooge

If you are a very economical or frugal type, here is a great idea for New Years Eve.
Knitted crackers!
You can use them year in and year out, since they wont break even if you pull very hard......
I bet you, uncle Scrooge would learn how to knit and make them for New Year!

Ikke en julegave / Not a Christmas present

It was meant to be, though. The salad scarf for my sister. These past Christmas days went by while crocheting the scarf and the edge (as far as I had yarn). All the vegetables are made and sewed unto one side of the scarf. I started sewing on the other side as well, so there isn't much left to do, actually.....
When I arrived back home last night, the last skein of yarn was ready in the mailbox. Guess, what I'll be doing for the next few days?
(P.S. It is egg, radish, tomato and cucumber on the photo. There are also slices of mushrooms, and then I need to add the shredded carrot......)

Strømper til mig / Socks for me

I hjemmefarvet, noget kaotisk garn.

During my days off, I finished another pair of socks. In home-dyed yarn in a tumble of colors. The pattern is 'Monkey' by Cookie A (it can be found for free on knitty.com). The socks are really nice and soft, and they are for me :-)
They took a very long time finishing, but now they're done...
After finishing them, I cast on for another pair. More about them some other time. Tomorrow I'll show what I did most of these days!

Garnudsalg.dk

Since I'm staying very close to Aalborg, and today is Friday, I took a chance and somehow managed to pass by 'garnudsalg's shop in Gug.
Wow. Yarn everywhere! Happy people everywhere as well (the photo was taken just before someone walked in front of me).
I bought a 'little'. Well - shame on me if I didn't take advantage of the situation! I also met 'Strikkeforskeren' (knitting researcher) from Odense. So nice!
My only problem? My brother already figured out the possible reason why I would happen to be in Aalborg on a Friday afternoon in the future.....

Bittesmå sokker / Tiny little socks

I made a pair of small socks. Size newborn, I think. They are going up beyond the knee, but either you can fold them, or you can think that they won't fall off.......
They parents in waiting wondered if baby-feet were really that small, but they'll see in time. (The feet of the socks are quite long, actually)
The socks are for a special baby. In May, I'm going to be a great-aunt, when my oldest nephew will become a father. They told me, that I can knit ANYTHING I want! I don't have to think of the others having babies at some point, because they will pass on the clothes.
I'm thinking that I want to be fair. Every baby should have about the same amount of knitted stuff. And I don't want to knit baby-stuff only. (Don't tell anyone!) Thus, first these socks. I also bought yarn for a baby-blanket. A few vests and sweaters will probably get done as well. But that's it. Actually a lot, don't you think?

From a nephew, I got the book of patterns that can be made in 30 minutes or less. There are some very interesting things.

From my brother and sister-in-law I got the great book of Icelandic sweaters. A goldmine!

From my sister this interesting book on felting. It has some very interesting methods and beautiful things!

Jul / Christmas

Finally, Christmas came! Happy Christmas!
Christmas Eve was at my sister's this year. We walked around the Christmas tree and opened presents in the afternoon, which works really well. It is much easier to enjoy the Christmas dinner without very excited kids waiting for their gifts, and you sing way better, walking around the tree without all that food inside.

Excitement was palpable anyway, though. How can you not be so excited about the gifts when you are a child? Everybody were happy with their gifts. I even received a real hug from my 14 year old nephew because he was happy with his present! That's huge from a teenager......

I also had some wonderful presents. The biggest surprises were the robot ornament and the alarmclock with a frisbee that flies off. You have to find it and put it back on for the alarm to stop......
The new teapot is something I really wanted. It is big and holds a tea strainer. I'm going to use this a lot!

There was yarn, too. Yummy yarn! Wool from Latvia and mink from - ehm - Esbjerg. There were knitting books! I got on less than 3 books! Right now they are in my suitcase, going with me to Jutland. You are going to see them later!
The best gift from me was the one for my niece. A Rainbow Loom, bought in the US. For making bracelets and stuff from little rubberbands. Before I left, she had made 4 already......
Now all I have to do is enjoying 5 days off from work, spending time with the family.
Happy days of Christmas to all of you!

Du kan lige præcis nå det / You can just about make it

Sometimes you just don't have time to knit an entire bottle-cover!
Especially when it is the 23rd of December and Christmas is just around the corner.
But don't despair! Find a good bottle of wine, a few small jingle bells and put on some nice music. It can't possibly take long to knit Rudolph, put him on top of the bottle and get ready to give a great gift!
The pattern is this one.

Julekjole! / Christmas dress!

My Christmas dress is finished! On a windy, overcast day it can be quite difficult having a great picture. With the brown wall out by the clothesline it looks rather pale....... But the shape and the pattern can be seen well!

With a yellow background, the color looks more authentic.
The dress is lovely and just right. The pattern is designed by Ellen Holm for a company called Hjelholt. I bought the pattern and yarn in September while at Fanø (using my gift card). It was a great idea!
The dress only took 375 grams of yarn, although the pattern said 450 grams. It is knitted using needles size 3.5 mm, and it went really fast. Just 20 days to knit this! (Of course mostly due to the course in the beginning of December)

The pattern is beautiful. The dress was made top-down, and the pattern in the skirt will get wider while going down, making an A-shape. It gives a wonderful shape!
The only problem is that it is quite transparent, so I have to go find something to wear underneath..... (Or sew something?)

The sleeves have a bit of pattern as well, which is a really nice detail.
I'm very, very happy with it, and I think it will become a favorite for the Christmas days! (Especially if I find something to wear underneath......) Also for New Year.
It is so pretty, actually, that I had 2 people asking me to make a dress for them as well. (As if! But I'm still flattered.)
What else can I say? Ellen Holm is a great designer.

Jeg mangler stadig at gøre noget / I still need to do something

A bit more than 2 years ago I had a knitting book for my birthday. From my sister and her family. Followed rather quickly by a wish of a salad scarf! (It is pretty amazing!)
Now that I had my own, private campaign of finishing stuff for others, I had to put the scarf on the list. Of course I had to! Unfortunately, I ordered one skein short of the needed amount and couldn't manage to finish it in time for Christmas, but maybe it will get done by New Year? (Just need to start, though.)
Hopefully, the Christmas dress will be on the blog tomorrow. Today is incredibly gray and dark. But from tomorrow, the light will return. (Today is the shortest day of the year.) Then taking photos will be easier, of course!

Hjemmefarvet / Homedyed

It was really nice watching the movie with the scouts last night. You could knit too! So that is why the Christmas dress is now finished (Hoorray!) and is drying. You will have to wait a bit to see it......
But you can see the socks I'm knitting. For me. The colors are utter chaos, since it is a homedyed "blanket" that I decorated with different spots. Strangely enough, other people tell me they look very nice, although I see nothing but chaos. We humans are very different!
Maybe they will be done soon. Maybe!

Things are not very speedy here. But the neck and the first sleeve is almost done, and then I just need to make the second sleeve. The Christmas dress is almost done!
Tonight I'll watch a movie with the scouts. Maybe that will give me time to knit a bit more? It will surely be nice (although I'm not a scout.....)

En slags kærlighed / Love, sort of

(Garn sponsoreret herfra. Selvfølgelig.)

Can you remember the sweater for my nephew? The one that kicked off the year of keeping-the-family-warm......
He really likes it. He likes it so much that he uses it constantly, and wore the seeming out.
He likes it so much that I never got to have it back and make the sleeves longer. But I guess I'll do that now!
You may get very touched by such love for a sweater and may feel like knitting something more for him. I don't have to do that. He started a hoodie for himself! (Yarn sponsored by yours truly. Of course.)

Monkey ball!

Today the pattern is for a Christmas ornament that I'm quite sure is new for your tree!
A cute little monkey's head.
The pattern is this.

søndag den 15. december 2013

Den vokser faktisk / It actually grows

Fantastisk!

According to the pattern, my Christmas dress reached its final length. Amazing! In reality, it needs another 2 inches...... So I'm knitting on for a bit. When I put it on 2 long needles, I could try it on and see, how long it really is. It is becoming very pretty, and there should be a great chance of the dress finishing in time, when it grows this fast!
Now I'll just go and make "æbleskiver" (sort of round pancakes) for my guests before knitting on. Maybe I will have a little time for knitting during the day? I hope so!

Lucia

Yesterday, after work, I popped by the supermarket to buy some milk. But just look, who were in the shopping center! A long line of Lucia-girls!

It did take a while for them to go all the way down...... But then they stayed for a while, singing the prettiest Christmas carols for quite some time. It was so beautiful seeing them, when I went for milk!

Later on, my nephew had his huge stack of curls turned into dreadlocks. His dream for a long, long time. It wasn't difficult, but took some time. Fortunately, we were 3 persons working on him!
We had a nice time, and the boy was beaming afterwards (in his controlled teenage-style). Great way to spend a Friday night!

I received the October prize from the web-knitting groups sock-blog.
The prize was sponsored by Uldgården.

Inside was a skein of lovely, green wool and a pattern for a scarf.
Thank you!

Saint Nicolas

Aha!

Last night I went to a concert. My nephews wife was playing for the Benjamin Brittens "Saint Nicolas Oratorium" in a big church close to my place. It was awesome and very nice at the same time. The story of the "real" Santa was told and sung, although I was wondering about the piece called "the pickled boys". What could it mean?
Turned out it was a legend of 3 boys, who got butchered, salted and roasted under a famine. Right before they were eaten, Saint Nicolas brought them back to life! Aha!

At home I found some lovely yarn. Nice, soft colors and a golden thread. Could become a very nice hat! But it could also become a nice present..... For someone happier about pastel colors than I am.
Could stay with me too, though. So tough!

Giraf

I MIT tempo!

Just look, what I got in my advent calendar yesterday! A little bag of wooden beads and elastic and nothing but a photo of the finished product didn't make it exactly a piece of cake to collect, but I really love the result! Now it's waiting for the glue to dry, and then I have a new keyring!
Yesterday I went to a job interview. It was the strangest experience. While I was waiting for my turn, one of my former colleagues, that I really respect and talked to a lot, came and sat with me. He told me that in my place he would choose to take a half-time job and do some other job on the side. Just to be able to stay there! What a great idea! After 5 minutes and a few phone-calls, I felt quite convinced that it would be possible and that this was, what I  really longed to do. (It has been very difficult deciding what to do, since I can't have a full-time job at my current place! I want to decide a bit for myself, and not just get paid to do some projects that belong to someone else.)
There I went to the interview about a job that I suddenly didn't want, anyway. Of course the interview was a bit colored by that. But also by the fact that I'm really, truly not interested in "the 7 roles of a medical expert", as long as I'm able to work and happy to do it!
Afterwards I got assured that a half-time job is certainly possible and that I will be able to work on the side as well. When they called me and told me I didn't get the job, I was happy. Then I don't have to choose! (And I know that some of my really nice and great colleagues got to get the jobs the interview was for. I'm so happy for them!)
Now I'm looking forward to spring-time. To having a few more off days, but also more time for the articles I'll be writing. As fast as I decide!
Maybe I should make another pair of socks for Ole just to say thank you?

Mønsteret er her.

Do you recognize this? You are invited for dinner and really want to bring something. A bottle of wine, for example. But how are you going to wrap it? Close to Christmas?
Or imagine something else. You are CRAZY about Christmas decorations! Why shouldn't the poor bottles be part of the fun as well?
No matter what. Transform your bottles into something elf-like of Christmas tree-like, and everybody will be so happy. Could you imagine anything else?
The pattern is right here.

December!

A bit more decorative stuff landed on my table. Last year I had the light green Kähler Christmas tree as a present, and this year I happened to buy one myself......
But just look, how pretty they look with the heritage-stuff! The little angel (bought for my mother by my father. He hid it inside the radio so she would not discover it. Many, many years ago....) and the king/boy.
Very pretty in my opinion!

lørdag den 7. december 2013

Det ER jo december / It is December, after all

Today I'd better decorate a bit. The paper hearts have found their place on my glass door, and the Christmas star needs to hang in the window, so it can spread some nice light this evening and night.
My count-down candle is going down well - I do think it's down to number 4 by now!
Later I'm going to make cookies and have a nice time with my friends, but before that I should find a few gifts and send them. Lovely Saturday!

Fire dage / Four days

The course on pediatric gastrointestinal diseases almost felt like a vacation. Really. I was knitting all day! In the evening I watched TV. EVERY evening! At night I slept for 8 hours. The rest of the time was filled with colleagues.
The dress was really kicked off this way. I just started the third skein, and I should be just about halfway there. Feels like it, although there are many, many more rounds of an ever increasing number of stitches!

The pattern is actually very pretty. Maybe you can guess it from this dark photo. It is so pretty that one of the others asked for a dress for herself. (Everyone can hope!)
Too bad that this was my very last course in my education. I really had a lot of great knitting time during all of them......
After all this relaxation and sense of vacation, the night has been filled with noises from the trash bins in the back yard, moving around crazily, ending up bumping into a garage door. All due to the storm. Welcome home!

Fred & George - niece version

The second pair of Fred & George socks were for my niece who will turn 17 in a short while. This time made in more "fun" colors than the first pair.
The yarn is - of course - wollmeise once more. This time pink and blue (I absolutely cannot remember the names of the shades). A total of 105 grams using 2.5 mm needles.

Since I was visiting, she received the socks. Before her birthday. I hope it will work out. The fit her nicely, and now I'm done with this years socks-planned-for-others. I'm making a pair for me, and maybe they should get done, then........ (When the dress gets too bit to put in the bag, the socks can join me for outings!)
