Giftigt / Toxic

105 gram wollmeise i farven WD Klapperstorch.

And then the socks were finished! It's late, so let's take the short version. A total of 105 grams of wollmeise, color named WD Klapperstorch. I really didn't like this color, so I decided to get rid of it by knitting socks. When turned into socks, it's kind of funny patterned. Totally toxic colors, a bit like this snake, that you probably read about at some point. The colors kind of fit the fact that these socks will end up on some stinking teenage-feet. I guess they will be a Christmas calendar gift for my niece who was lucky to go away on boarding-school for one more year.
With these socks, I've knitted a total of 2390 grams of wollmeise so far this year.

This was supposed to be a photo of finished socks. Not quite, as you can see! (No idea in blaming the moth-invasion, I guess.....)
Maybe you'll see more of them later today - I hope you will. First I'll sleep after my LAST 17-hours evening-night shift. (Hooray!!!!)
Beginning tomorrow, I'll be on call from home at night. Can't wait!

Ydrk! / Yikes!

Look at this pretty orchid with a double flower! I found it at one of my mothers orchids. Really nice!
Well, back to the headline. I found a very large family, living together in harmony in my knitting basket. Moth! (AAAARRRRRRRGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!)
Lessons I learned in 20 minutes:
1) There are very fast ways of cleaning up a knitting basket.
2) There is also a very fast way of getting rid of you knitting basket.
3) Moth don't like bamboo. Or alpaca (fortunately!)
4) Not all types of yarn like microwaves. Milk yarn, for instance. And certain types of mercerized cotton, that turns a weird shade of brown, starts smoking and STINKS!
5) I am very, very grateful that most of my yarn is stored in thick, closed plasticbags.
6) My 2 year old sock planned to be taken off my WIP list this year? Mission accomplished. Not the way I planned, though....
Stupid animals! But I guess that's the price you have to pay if you let a lot of yarn stay close and un-touched in an open basket for so long.

Igang igen / Exit summer

Men altså.

And so the summer and all the joy of vacation (or that special feeling of vacation) ended.... Just one week back on my usual program, and I'm tired. If only there was a simple solution like taking a pill or something, instead of the very boring solution of planning some evenings of nothingness. At home.
The evenings have grown (very) dark - and I wasn't even finished enjoying summer!
Anyway - I can imagine myself back at the Chinese temple, in the warm sun with good company and something good to knit. And then I'll hope to be able to show you something finished again soon.

Har du fundet ham? / Did you find him?

Kan du huske ham her?
Nemo-tehætten kan du finde her.

Do you remember this little guy? He wasn't always a tea-cozy, but swam out for his own big adventure and nearly caused his very nervous dad several heart attacks. I've watched this movie several times, but I guess it's about time to watch it again. Maybe with a cup of tea?
The Nemo-tea cozy is right here. Just the right time for knitting it an getting ready for autumn!

Første gang / First time

For the first time ever, I have two orchids blooming simultaneously. I didn't buy them with the flowers, but they grew them while staying here at my place. I'm very proud!
Right now I'm enjoying Sunday morning alone, before I'll go to a child baptism celebration. I've seen so much of the family these past weeks! My youngest nephews sister was VERY jalous, so we had to find a day for her as well. Including going to Tivoli! Even though I don't have the courage to try very much that seems dangerous, but she'll have to cope and live with the 'boring' stuff.
But for now, I'll take a few weeks without visitors.....

Bla-bla-bla-bla-bla-bla-bla

For the first time ever, I picked up my youngest nephew at SCHOOL! I can't believe he's not a little kindergarten-kid anymore.... I totally forgot how much children this size talk! He talked non-stop all the way to my home, and only kept quiet when we met the lady living in the flat on top of mine. I explained to him, how she would fall through the ceiling if she jumped too much, and I guess he was rather impressed at the thought.

He played with water and bathing-ducks. (Oh yeah - still a favorite!) Breakfast came in tiny packages. His adult cousin just told me how this kind of breakfast was an essential part of visiting me when he was a child, so we didn't want to miss these....
Herligt!

He took care of brewing coffee and today (after I think he almost has run out of words) we're just going to have a nice time. I really missed his visits!
By the way - did you see the gun? Bought yesterday, but already he used most of the shots. My apartment smells like gun-powder. I love it!

Fuglenyt / News on birds

Of all the birds in Denmark, I probably own the craziest ones.... Maybe you can remember how they really got mad at each other and had to move apart. Then things went better and they spend some time together.
Now they really figured things out and got themselves a 2-room apartment here on Frederiksberg.
Right now they are spending 80% of the day together. During the night they sleep in the tiny cage. Then in the morning the male fly into the large cage and calls for his wife until she joins him. Then they just sit there. So - well..... I never heard of birds like this before!
So now I just wait to see if they really grow happy together again. Hopefully they can stay in just one cage....
Today - after I have slept after work - my youngest nephew will come visit. I can't wait! (He is excited too, I guess) He will probably drive me crazy. But in a very nice and enjoyable way!

Pesto hexagon

Sikke nogle farver!

On Monday and Tuesday I was going on a course. One with long days and difficult stuff. One of my colleagues were teaching some of the time, and when he heard that I was going to knit, he looked kind of funny..... He clearly didn't want to teach someone staring at a knitting project because a stitch fell off.
So I thought it might be better not to bring one of my many projects with cables. Nor to crochet, since I'm not yet that good at it. I didn't want to make socks. So what? (I am aware that you have seen the answer at the top of this post.....)
When my niece visited me last weekend, she made me take out ALL my wollmeise. In one place! It was CRAZY! I've never actually seen all my lace-skeins in one place before. Such beautiful colors! Much to my delight I had 2 skeins of WD Pesto, looking identical. Should be enough for a sweater for me!
Then the combination of this mental yarn overload and a new, fancy pattern led to what you see on the picture. The beginning of the back. The pattern is called "Hexagon" and can be bought on Ravelry. I think it's a stroke of genious! You have to know the width, and then everything else follows almost by magic. Gauge is irrelevant and you can make from all kinds of yarn in any weight. Even while knitting this one, I'm thinking about making another in color-changing yarn. Could be fun!

Rockefeller

My "Rockefeller" shawl is finally done..... My niece took it as her personal task to make me finish, and was quite certain it finished due to her reminding me to knit!

It's a lovely scarf! After I took the photos, I washed it, and it's even nicer now. I love the colors and the size too. It has a size that makes binding it on the back possible, and it is really soft and warm and just the right kind of heavy. I didn't make any modifications but just followed the pattern, and I'm very happy with it.
Unfortunately, it has been promised to give away. I think, it would have been really nice for wearing during winter!

(Of course) It is made from Wollmeise. I used 270 grams, approximately equal amounts of the two colors.
And so I have knitted 2285 grams of wollmeise this year.

Selv en pirat / Even a pirate

Mønsteret kan du finde her.

Even though you sailed the seven seas and captured several gold-chests, all the cool attitude won't help you if your feet get cold....
This socks will guarantee lovely warm feet, even for pirates!
The pattern is right here.

We went to Malmø yesterday in time for a festival. Not sure why they held it, but there were loads of people and all the signs were made very pretty with yarn bombing.

Her er et jungle-signal.

This one's straight out of the jungle.

I supermarkedet var der - hø hø - JULi-skum. MED en sommer-julemand!

In the supermarket we found juli- candy. Funny, because Christmas is Jul, and July is called Juli. The bag even had a summer-Santa.

There were NO balloons on the escalator. (I have no idea why that was not allowed!)

Back home again I knitted some more on my shawl. It's almost finished and really lovely to knit if it is a little cold!

Film

Last night was wonderful. My niece arrived, and we went to 'Riz-Raz', a very nice Mediteranian restaurant with a large buffet. (I still felt very disappointed about last Sunday when I had to go to work instead of staying there with my guests.)
Later, there was open-air film in a large park. They showed 'A Royal Affair'. We walked there, crossing the graveyard/park, 'Assistens kirkegård', and ended up walking through 'Rigshospitalet', using some civilized restrooms before entering the park. It was really nice.
I was dressed for arctic cold with woollen socks, a coat and my new hoodie. We also brought tea. Didn't take me long to feel extremely warm!
The film was great, and it was just so nice being there. Very weirdly, honecker, they took a 20 minutes break just about 20 minutes before the film ended. We left for home at that point. Didn't want to sit there all night!
Today I think we'll go to Malmø. It's been a while since last time. I think it will be a nice day too!

Familie / Family

Last week has been filled with family-stuff, beginning with a steakhouse dinner sitting next to my youngest nephew, with all-you-can-eat icecream for desert. Very nice evening for all of us!

Then I had guests last weekend and visited another nephew and his very cute chameleon.
This weekend my oldest niece visits me. I happened to tell her how my shelf with knitted sweaters is filled. Took her 7 minutes to text back (she has been waiting for a message like that!) and I guess we will spend some time looking at what she would like me to make.

Odense

You might have heard this before, but I still visit my dentist in Odense. Sometimes (about every 6 months. At least!) I drop by the city in the middle of Denmark, and yesterday was one of those days.

I had received an appointment. Happened to be on my day off! Not until Tuesday night did I realise that in order to make it for my appoinment at 9 a.m., I had to catch a train at 7 a.m. S.E.R.I.O.U.S.L.Y. - that's really early! But too late to change, unfortunately....
Normally I visit some friends and hang around all day when going to Odense, but then I discovered that my choir started again on Wednesday evening, so I had to get back to Zealand quite early. Furthermore, all of my friends (and their children!) had started work and school again after the vacation, so I couldn't really hope to crash-visit anyone very energetic.
Ulla var heller ikke lige hjemme....

Ulla wasn't at home either......

As it happened, none of this mattered, since I discovered that the flower festival of Odense was opening yesterday. This meant a lot of activity in the shopping streets making everything ready, loads and loads of beautiful flowers everywhere and hoards of small kids walking around, preparing mentally to meet Crown Princess Mary, who was supposed to open the festival.
If this wasn't enough, the weather was just amazing. Sunshine and a blue sky. Plenty to enjoy!
The theme this year was fairy tales, as you might have guessed. Never before have I visited the festival on the very first day. It was so pretty!
I solskin.

Tante Grøn was open for a visit, and I looked through everything. (And only bought the GOOD stuff!) I bought a present for a baptism, and I had a free steak for lunch, using my little card with a lot of stamps from another visit with guests. I was eating outside. In the sunshine.
At the very end I had coffee with friend, before taking the train back home.

Odense is such a nice place! Once more I felt my pulse and blood pressure going down after spending a few hours there. I don't think I'll get another dentist......

1 vinge / One wing

It's "just" a little shawlette-thing, but with other things to knit (especially during the last 2 weeks!), using US needlesize 4 and with (boring) garter-stitch, it's not really growing lightning-fast, the last part of my Rockefeller shawl.
But it grows steadily. And now the first wing has finished! Then I just need to make the other one..... Hopefully a bit faster!
The shawl has been claimed already, but can stay with me until the beginning of October, which gives me plenty of time. On the other hand, there is a contest in the KAL-group, if you finish before August 31st. I guess I can make it!

Amalienborg etc.

I dag.

Yesterday I decided to stay awake, in order to not disturb my diurnal rythm. And because I knew that I didn't have any night-time work in the next two weeks..... Last night I slept like a rock, and today we decided to go sight-seeing and show the guests from Jutland a bit of Copenhagen.
Then - in the middle of breakfast - my phone rang and made me the lucky owner of an evening-night job. Tonight. During the Olympic Games closing ceremony. Resulting in my guests not only arriving, but also leaving while I'm not at home. Amazing life!
We had a very lovely walk around Copenhagen, though, and we even saw the change of guards at the queen's castle. And you know - my guests are newlyweds, so I had this feeling that they might be okay during lunch, even without me ;-)
Tomorrow I'll sleep!

Blomster-vitaminer / Flower vitamins

I don't buy flowers very often. But yesterday these dahlias were calling my name when I passed the corner flower shop. Very pretty, don't you think?
The presence of dahlias is a sign of summer packing up, getting ready to move on. (Well, this summer in particular didn't do a lot in the sunshine-department!) It's a little sad, but that's the way it is.

While I was working this evening and night, I had visitors. My newly-wed nephew and his Missus (she would probably kill me if she knew I was calling her that!) got the key at my neighbor's and slept here.
This night was unusually quiet at work. I had a phone call after 2 hours of sleep, and the rest of the night was spent answering a few phone calls, playing "Bejewelled" on my cellphone and spending a LOT of time thinking "now - go to sleep! You have visitors at home. You should be well rested. Now SLEEP!"... Strangely enough, I didn't get very sleepy.....
It was extremely nice going home in the morning to see the coffee brewed and the table set. On the way home I passed a very Copenhagen-authentic-Nordic-like bakery. They had ONE bread in the shop and some buns made from the same dough (but they were busy making more bread). It tasted very healthy..... The shop was really nice, though, smelling like flour and dough, which was a real pleasure.

The Noro-hoodie is finished. Believe it or not - the extra 6 rows were just the thing for making everything perfect. The sweater was an inch longer, the sleeves had a bit more space and the neckline got perfect.
I made quite a few small modifications of the pattern. Mostly because I wanted the rib-edges a bit tighter and because I didn't want to do so much sewing.
In total, I used 740 grams of Noro Kureyon, and that's quite an addition to the amount I knitted this year!
Thanks to Birthe from the shop "Garngalleriet" I had enough yarn, and I'm so very happy about this. Because - you know - I just LOVE this sweater so much already! The shawl-collar is so warm that I think this sweater was meant for wearing on a frosty December night in Tivoli.....

The past 2 weeks have been filled with so much TV-watching that I'm half crazy. Never in my life have I watched so much from the Olympic Games, and I can't really remember when was the last time I watched so much TV in 2 weeks...... (Well. Some years ago I had a week with fever, and I saw 1.5 seasons of "Friends" in just one week.)
Yesterday was TV-free. Just couldn't bear watching more TV, and I had plenty of other things to do. And - well - you know, sewing is not the thing to do if you want to watch TV!
So now the Olympic Games are almost over. I hope I can watch the closing ceremony, since I didn't see the opening!

I finished the hood for my hoodie! I stayed up far too late last night to finish it and do a 3-needles bind-off (so I didn't have to sew) to make it ready for today, which I thought would be the day it would finish.
Men altså....
Skulle helt klart have prioriteret nattesøvn frem for strikning!)

But really..... The neck was a bit short for the hood's ribbing, and actually I had been thinking how the openings for the sleeves were a bit small. At that time I just finished sewing and didn't want to redo it....
Today I think it needs a little more knitting, so right now the sweater looks like this. Jigsaw puzzle once more! I want to do 6 more rows on the back and fronts, and then I can start sewing again. (Looking closely at it, I believe the 3 needle bind-off could have been prettier. Should have chosen to sleep last night instead of to knit so late.)
